Patrick Mayer is currently the Superintendent of the Yakutat School District Prior to moving to Yakutat, he held the position of Wrangell Public Schools Superintendent for four years.
Patrick first moved to Alaska in 1982 and after accepting a position with the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Palmer Research Center. He began his K-12 teaching career in 1997 and became a principal in 2001. He has served as building principal at various levels encompassing elementary, middle and high school. Mr. Mayer hold a B.S. from Washington State University, an A.A.S. from the Matanuska-Susitna Community College, a B.A. from the University of Alaska Anchorage, a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Eastern Washington University, a School Business Certification from the University of Southern California and a Superintendents Certification from Montana State University.
Patrick is the current President of the Alaska Council of School Administrators (ACSA) as well as the President of the Alaska Superintendents Association. Superintendent Mayer has served on the Alaska Association of Secondary School Principals Board of Directors and was the 2013 Region VI Principal of the Year.

Carol Pate, Secondary Language Arts/Social Studies/Physical Education Teacher & Activities Director
Carol is a proud graduate of Yakutat High School. Following her graduation she attended the University of Oregon for two years before taking a break to be the mother of her two girls. After returning to the school as a substitute teacher, Carol went back to school and finished her degree for certification at the University of Alaska. Carol currently teaches Language Arts, Health, PE, and is the District Test Coordinator and the Activities Director.
Nate Endicott, Secondary CTE/Language Arts/Science Teacher
Nate is father to sons Magnus and Braun and husband to wife Melissa. He was raised in Yakutat and is an alumnus of YHS, returning to the school district in 2009 as a teacher. Currently he teaches math, science, language arts, and is the district coordinator for both the CTE and LEAD correspondence programs.
Velvet Ivers, Kindergarten/1st Grade
This is Velvet’s 20th year of teaching. Velvet has taught K-5 in her tenure, and have loved every minute. Currently Velvet is teaching the kindergarten and first grade. They keep her busy, but it’s still fun!
Sarah Israelson, 2nd/3rd/4th Grade
Sarah Israelson graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Elementary Education. She came to Yakutat originally as an AmeriCorps volunteer. After her term of AmeriCorps service was complete she decided to make her move to Yakutat permanent after she met her husband and began teaching at Yakutat Elementary School.
Melissa Endicott, Secondary Math and Junior High Teacher
Melissa grew up in Oregon but moved to Yakutat 20 years ago after coming to Alaska “just for the summer.” Melissa’s family (husband Nate and sons, Magnus and Braun) is in the process of building a new house and love being outdoors having adventures. During their summer break from school, Melissa and her husband are commercial fishermen in both the salmon setnet and halibut longline fisheries. As a secondary teacher, Melissa’s favorite classes to teach are math and science, and she also enjoys working with families through our LEAD Correspondence program.

Cherise graduated from Yakutat High School in 2009 and has worked with the Yakutat School District as the Special Education Instructional Aide since 2014. She enjoys reading, sunny days, walks on the beach, and spending time with her two little children.
Chris Cook, Maintenance Coordinator
Chris is a graduate of Yakutat High School. Chris worked for the City and Borough of Yakutat prior to coming on as the Maintenance Coordinator several years ago. Chris takes pride in the facilities of the Yakutat School District and keeps them in tip top shape for the students.
